If you’re heading to Bali this summer, you’ve picked the right time. June, July, and August are Bali’s peak season! The waves are pumping, the skies are clear, and the island is buzzing with energy.
Whether you’re here to chase barrels at Uluwatu or catch your very first wave, here’s exactly what Bali looks like right now.
You’re in the heart of Bali’s dry season. Expect warm, sunny days with temperatures between 27–31°C, low humidity, and very little rain. Sunrise is around 6:30am and sunset just after 6pm, leaving plenty of daylight for surfing, exploring, and everything in between.
Early mornings are the best time to be in the water: glassy, light winds, and far fewer people in the lineup, completely worth the early alarm!
Dry season means peak surf, and right now, Bali is delivering. We asked our Head Surf Coach to give his honest take on how the surf is shaping up, which spots are already firing, and what to expect over the coming months. Short answer? Get here as soon as possible!
“The southeast trade winds are locked in, blowing clean and offshore onto the west coast every single morning. The Indian Ocean is sending consistent swells through June, July, and August, with a surf spot for every level. Beach breaks are fun and forgiving, the intermediate spots are firing, and the bigger reef breaks are world-class. It’s as good as it gets.”
Here’s what that looks like in practice: beginner-friendly beach breaks are rolling in nicely, while wave heights at the main breaks are hitting 4-8ft on solid swells. Swell is coming predominantly from the southwest with periods regularly hitting 14-18 seconds on the bigger pulses. Long, organised, and powerful, the kind of waves Bali is famous for.
Beginners: don’t let the peak season hype put you off. The beach breaks in Seminyak and Canggu are perfect for learning right now. Gado Gado and Double Six in Seminyak offer soft, rolling waves over a sandy bottom, perfect conditions for your first pop-ups and waves. Our 5-day Learn-To-Surf Program runs daily, with small groups so you get real attention in the water from session one. We’ll set you up with the right board from our quiver, walk you through the theory on land, and have you riding waves before you know it.
Intermediate surfers: peak season is your playground! Canggu’s beach breaks are fun and consistent, and when you’re ready, Uluwatu and Bingin will push your surfing to another level. Our surf guides take you to the right spot for your level every single day, no guessing, no wasted sessions.
Add in our video analysis sessions and you’ll see your technique improves faster than you thought possible. Feeling stuck? A week of good Bali surf is one of the fastest ways to break through the intermediate plateau.
Advanced surfers: you already know. Uluwatu, Padang Padang, Bingin, Nyang Nyang. The waves are as good as anywhere in the world right now. Get here! Our guides know every section of every break on the island, and with our premium surfboard quiver available at camp, you’ll always have the right board under your feet.
Whatever your level is, our team will always match you with the right waves, the right surfboard, and the right guidance.
