Verbessere dein Surfen, Schnell

Mit diesen 5 Gewohnheiten

Do you ever wonder why some surfers just get it? They improve in just a few weeks while other surfers struggle and stay stuck in the whitewash? Well the secret is some surfers know how to work smarter both inside and outside of the water.

At Kima Surf Camps we have watched thousands of guests transform from a wobbly pop up to riding waves confidently and beginning some cool manuvres. With all the improvements we have watched our surfers make we have noticed a few habits they have in common and we will share that with you today to help your surfing journey…

1. Bilde die Grundlagen

80% of surfing is actually just nailing the basics, it’s not all about airs and flashy tricks. Our fastest learners are the ones who focus on their foundational skills first. They practice their pop up, paddling out to the line up and spend time focussing on where to sit in the line up and they focus on timing and understanding ocean dynamics and wave reading.

Without strong foundational skills, everything else falls apart so it is important to know your basics. At Kima Surf Camps our 5 Day Learn To Surf course ensures just that! This LTS course is for beginner surfers who want to experience surfing for the first time. Our knowledgeable surf guides will teach you all the skills you need to get on your feet both theoretically and practically in small groups. In Bali our surf school is located at Seminyak Beach which you’ll reach after a 10min walk from our Seminyak Camp. If you stay in our Canggu Camp you will be driven there every day.

2. Frage nach Rat

Feedback is super important and when you follow the advice of our knowledgeable surf guides and listen to their advice you will be able to fix your mistakes as quickly as you make them and that is key to improving! Our fastest learners are curious. They ask questions, before, after and during surf sessions, they attend Kima Surf’s theory classes and video analysis sessions and constantly assess what they could have done better, how they could adjust their surfing posture and how to pop up faster and smoother.

Surfing is a difficult sport to identify your mistakes and to self-correct. Our experienced Kima surf guides—you fast-track your surfing improvement and stop guessing where your faults lie.

After each session our surf guides will provide valuable feedback, explain wave selection and provide coaching in real time. Additionally, we have video analysis sessions where you can view and analyse your rides (and wipeouts!).

3. Beobachte, um dich zu verbessern

The fastest learners are those who observe. You watch and you learn. They watch other surfers during their sessions, they watch Kima’s educational reels, they watch surfing tutorials and surfing competitions and more! Surfing is a visual sport and through observing other surfers you can see valuable insights into timing, reading the waves, positioning in the line up and to perform tricks and maneuvers.

This is the advantage of staying at Kima Surf Camps: you are surrounded by surfers 24/7, you can watch our experienced surf guides rip the waves, and observe fellow surfers in your 2 daily surf sessions. We also have video analysis 6 days a week so you can watch the surfing footage of yourself and other surfers and listen to the feedback the guides provide and see if it resonates with you. At our camps in Seminyak and Canggu you’re surrounded by surfers of all levels. Learning is happening all the time—even between sessions.

4. Surfe jeden Tag

Yes we know the saying “consistency is key” is super cheesy but it could not be more true! Our fastest improving surfers are the ones who never miss their surf sessions regardless of how early they need to wake up. Consistency makes confidence and endurance and endurance builds muscle memory and comfortability in the ocean. The more repetition you have the more familiar the body and mind becomes to the sport and that is when you see results.

That is why at Kima Surf Camps we make your experience surfing in Bali focussed on real results with 2 daily surf sessions a day. We recommend you show up for your morning and afternoon sessions and you are guaranteed to improve. Yes, we know it can be tiring but our camps have you covered with ice baths, massages and more to make sure your body is ready for consistency!

5. Gib nicht auf

Yes wipeouts can be scary and unpleasant but this is all part of the experience. Resilience is key when it comes to surfing. Fast learners don’t fixate on bad sessions and let that demotivate them, they don’t give up, they roll with the washing machine and paddle straight back out to try again. Just paddle back out, relax and have fun, that’s what it is all about. A good attitude is essential.

The atmosphere at our camps in Seminyak and Canggu is welcoming and supportive. With the help of our staff and your fellow surfer friends, you’ll celebrate your first green wave with new friends, laugh about your wipeouts over dinner and maintain your motivation.

At Kima Surf Camps we don’t just take you surfing, we improve your surfing level and with firsthand experience of watching thousands of guests improve we can confidently say that consistency, feedback, video analysis, nailing the basics and resilience are key habits of our fastest learning surfers, and our knowledgeable surf guides will help you learn these habits!
